Hurry

I'm starting to see a pattern where a lot of these posts originate from a scene in a show or a movie or possibly a song I can't get out of my head for some reason. It admittedly doesn't happen a lot, and it always goes away once I write out what I'm thinking about it. I'm not particularly a TV person, I actually don't think the TV in my room has been turned on in years (I don't know why, really), so anyway I just got around to watching the first season of Stranger Things. In the series, Will is missing, trapped in the Upside Down, a very dark, nightmarish dimension. The kids and grown-ups get Eleven set up in a salt pool so she can communicate with Will in the Upside Down (sorry, might not make sense to anyone who hasn't seen the show), and when she finds him there he is alone and has almost given up, his life just barely hanging by a thread.

Because Eleven is able to act as a liaison between dimensions, Will can hear his mom telling him to stay where he is, that they are on their way.

"Hurry," he replies.

For the past couple of weeks, I cannot get the image of him curled up, cold, alone and desperate, trapped in a nightmare, out of my head. Hurry.

I deeply feel both Will and his mother's perspective in this scene. I have certainly been Will, years and years ago and even very much so as of late. But since learning what was "wrong" with me in 2018, complete blood sugar calamity, I have predominantly stepped into the perspective of Will's mom, Winona Ryder's character. I would fervently travel to the Upside Down, light beam in hand, to save a young kid like Will. I've already been there, and I’m incredibly determined that no one else should ever find themselves trapped in that place.

My mission is to illuminate the innumerable ways the human body and mind are poisoned by the gruesome malignancy that is processed sugar. Unfortunately, one can be in the Upside Down, if you will, for years before discovering that blood sugar is the problem. And once you're diabetic, well, you kind of always feel like you're fighting to stay above.
